What is NETA?

The Northern Endoscopy Training Academy (NETA), hosted by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, has been launched to centralize and enhance endoscopy training across the North East and North Cumbria. Based at the University Hospital of Hartlepool, NETA provides state-of-the-art training spaces equipped with advanced virtual and simulation technology.
The academy brings together regional expertise to offer a structured and standardized training program, addressing disparities in access to high-quality endoscopy training. Trainees will benefit from an accelerated pathway, starting with intensive courses, immersive training blocks, and ongoing support at their base sites.
Key team members include Dr. Chris Wells as Clinical Lead, Dr. Fraser Brown as Research Fellow, and Dr Roisin Bevan as Immersion Lead. Together, they aim to innovate and elevate endoscopy education, solidifying the region’s leadership in this field.
NETA’s launch, supported by Health Education England North East, marks a significant milestone in developing a competent and efficient diagnostic workforce.
