Training opportunities

NETA supports endoscopy training across the North East and North Cumbria as part of the North East and Yorkshire Endoscopy Training Academy. There are courses for medical and surgical trainees, clinical endoscopists and endoscopy nurses. Check who each course is aimed at before applying.

• Basic skills: regional courses have included upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP and EUS.
• Further development: colonoscopy and polypectomy improvement, advanced endotherapy and endoscopy non-technical skills.
• Trainer development: courses have included Training the Gastroscopy Trainer.

How immersion training works

An immersion block is a period set aside for endoscopy training. It sits alongside skills courses and regular training at your own hospital. The Trust originally described blocks lasting two or four weeks. Ask NETA about current placements, how to apply and where you would train.

Regional network

NETA covers the North East and North Cumbria. Its partner, the Yorkshire Endoscopy Training Academy (YETA), covers Yorkshire. The academies work within the wider North East and Yorkshire network.

NETA’s published regional map includes Newcastle, South Tyneside and Sunderland, North Tees and Hartlepool, South Tees, Northumbria, Gateshead, County Durham and Darlington, and North Cumbria. Training arrangements vary by site.
